The elephant is seen pushing forward against an unknown force. Her large ears, tusks and trunk balance with her petite bottom and slender tail. The travertine block has almost more holes than stone throughout; extracting a figurative sculpture is challenging but rewarding. The stone’s great richness and varieties of colour are suggestive of the yellow dust kicked up by the elephant roaming the African plains.
