Commissioned by Kerry County Council
for Tralee Town Park, County Kerry
Unveiled 24 July 2026.
The sculpture depicts a rebel woman marching forwards raising the Irish flag; her raised chin and sidewards gaze show courage, resilience, defiance and leadership. She commemorates the legacy of all the women of County Kerry during the revolutionary era of 1912 and 1923, during Ireland’s struggle for independence. It is the first memorial of its kind in Ireland to be commissioned by a local authority; following a 2023 motion proposed by the female elected representatives of Kerry County Council, to acknowledge the role played by Kerry women, of all ages, who contributed in many different ways, to the changes which shaped a new Ireland. It was funded by the Department of Housing and Local Government under the Percent for Arts Scheme.
