Naturalist and geologist who put forward the theory of evolution by natural selection. The sculpture of Darwin as a young man was commissioned to celebrate the life and work of Frank Noble, former Vice-Principal and Head of Biology Department at Ballymena Academy Grammar School from 1965 to 1995. The sculpture includes a beetle climbing up the base, the study of beetles and insects fascinated the young Darwin.
