This bronze bust is a study of Mark Pollock, a blind athlete who competed in endurance sports events around the world, including marathons in the Gobi Desert and the North Pole. Mark is the first blind person ever to reach the South Pole, as part of an Irish team in a 2008 race. Two years later a tragic accident left Mark paralysed from the waist down. He is now working with leading scientists across the globe to fast-track a cure for spinal cord injuries. Mark is a director of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and has a successful international career as a motivational speaker.
